Christian von Koenigsegg is one of the most respected and admired bosses in the automotive world, both for his engineering mind, which is the initiator of many of the technical solutions applied to the brand’s hypercars, and for his open way of being. He has made a reputation for being one of the few bosses in the automotive world who really understands the construction of a car down to the smallest nut, and is often the one who presents the innovations of the company that runs it. He doesn’t have an engineering degree, but he has a lot of active engineering patents for solutions he invented, from aviation to batteries for electric and hybrid cars, more recently. He is also known as the man who sincerely appreciates simple classic cars, but also the creations of his competitors, often participating in joint discussions and even testing each other’s cars. But once he has invested so much soul in the brand he founded and runs as a family business, he is also known to be harsh with those who do things to the detriment of what he has built with his team, and a month ago it was learned that he suddenly fired one of his deputy bosses after he allowed a Porsche employee to enter the factory in Sweden. Well, now the Koenigsegg boss has become angrier than ever with a YouTuber who claimed that his car, a Koenigsegg Regera, is constantly breaking down and has been a nightmare for him.

The YouTuber in question is Steve Hamilton, the owner of what is known as the Hamilton Collection. It is a kind of private collection of performance cars, supercars and hypercars, which is not a business to resell these cars, but is designed as a place where Steve Hamilton maintains his own cars and also films them on his YouTube channel. He says he has about 34 cars in that collection, from some worth only $100,000 to $150,000 to others worth several million per car.

Steve made his fortune from a wheel and tire distribution network that became one of the largest in the US. His fortune is estimated by third parties at figures with a very wide range, but usually it is estimated from several hundred million dollars to 1 billion.

Well, in a video from three weeks ago, Steve Hamilton talked about the cars he wants to sell from his current collection and the ones he has ordered and waiting to be delivered. Here he said that the experience of owning a Koenigsegg Regera was a nightmare for him and he wants to get rid of this car.

Steve also explained why he says this. “I love that car and would keep it if it didn’t break down every 5 minutes since I’ve had it. I drive it 10-20 miles and then it breaks down and takes months to fix.

Steve says he appreciates the people at Koenigsegg and is grateful that they once had him at the factory, but they need to do something about the Regera, because the problems would not only be with his copy, but with many others. Steve says that the problems are not known to the general public, but among collectors they are already aware of these problems and he has examples.

He says that in the 18 months or so since he’s had it, he’s barely managed to drive it 1,000 miles, the equivalent of about 1,600 km. And now it would be in service for 3 months. Steve also said that it’s possible that these problems are due to the fact that Koenigsegg tried to do everything in-house, and you can’t be good at everything.

It is curious that Steve ordered another car from Koenigsegg, a Gemera, which he says he is waiting for and thinks will be less problematic, since it only has a combustion engine, no hybrid systems. He says he wanted to make a separate video just about the endless problems, but hasn’t done so yet.

Christian von Koenigsegg did not appear publicly with any reaction, initially, but it seems that he appeared in the middle and the possibility that the Swedish factory will no longer deliver his new Gemera to the YouTuber. However, the YouTuber then published an image with Christian’s face modified, asking him to deliver the car.

Here Christian got angry and published a video on his Instagram account, saying that he did not expect this, but he has to talk about it. He says of Steve that “this guy” paid the second installment for the car at the beginning of the year and only finished setting it up in May. “Then I told the dealer he’s buying it from that we’re going to deliver the car to him at the end of November. And the car is already built and going to be polished to be ready to ship. So I don’t know what this guy is talking about, the delivery of the car is on schedule and that’s incredible to hear.”

The head of Koenigsegg also referred to the problematic Regera of the youtuber and says that he bought his car second-hand, from a used car dealer, and the car did not receive its annual technical maintenance for 3 years. The car received several technical updates after that. Even technicians from Koenigsegg flew to the USA, to this service, to assist in revitalizing the car, because they wanted it to work, plus Steve had ordered another car, so these common sense things were done, he says.

Now the head of Koenigsegg says that the YouTuber is lying when he says that the car has been in service for 2-3 months. The Swedish manufacturer checked with the dealer and the car came in for service three days ago. And if it was a problem that he couldn’t get the car to that dealer faster, Christian says he has 12 dealers in the US and you could go to any one if you wanted faster. The head of Koenigsegg admits, however, that the car had technical problems, but says that the ultimate performance hypercars sometimes tend to have problems, especially at the beginning of the production of a model, but his team always takes care to make the necessary technical updates, to change parts if necessary, so that the first cars are exactly as good as the last ones.

Christian then showed the produced Gemera, which is awaiting polishing and delivery to the YouTuber. “What should I do now?” asks the Koenigsegg boss, hinting that it might not deliver. Christian also says that the car is not yet fully paid for, so that would put him in a situation where he could cancel the sale.

The YouTuber then came up with a reaction and announced that he did not make the last payment, because the car is not ready yet, as Christian says, and he is ready to do it whenever the Swedish manufacturer is ready to receive it. He explained that two months in service meant that the car had waited that long to be serviced, not that it had sat there. And he also reaffirms his position that the Regera is a super problematic car and would be a problem recognized by many owners.

Therefore, it is a rather critical situation, when the head of a producer directly accuses a YouTuber, who is also his client, and suggests that he might not deliver the new car.
