The dramatic events took place in the building’s lobby, where a little boy in a warm jacket and hat approached the elevator door. Footage from an internal surveillance camera shows Matwiej pressing on the door, which suddenly gives way and the child falls into the darkness. The boy’s father, Alexei, did not manage to catch him in time, but immediately rushed to save him.
A father saved his son who fell into an elevator shaft in Russia
Alexei, regardless of the threat, squeezed through the opening in the elevator to reach his son. Meanwhile, the boy’s mother, holding a flashlight, lit the way for her husband. Everything was happening at a dizzying pace, and the tension was reaching its zenith – every second could affect the baby’s life, because the elevator could start moving at any moment.
Fortunately, the story had a happy ending. Alexei managed to get his son out of the shaft and into his mother’s arms. The boy survived a fall from a height of about two meters by avoiding metal bars at the bottom of the shaft.
Neighbors also rushed to help the family, hearing the screams and reacting quickly. They stopped the elevator on the third floor, which prevented it from moving further and prevented a tragedy.
“We went to the hospital and, thank God, our baby is doing well. Apart from a few bruises, he is fine,” Alexei reported.
The boy’s father did not hide his anger, pointing to the terrible technical condition of the elevators in the block.
“It’s a new construction, and the elevators operate only two months a year. When they do work, they make terrifying noises – squeaking and grinding. A new elevator should not function like that,” he added.
The case is being handled by the police, who are investigating the circumstances of the incident and checking who is responsible for the accident.
