Drug Baron’s Extravagant Wedding Leads to Arrests and Network Dismantling in Morocco

Authorities in Morocco have dismantled two traffic networks and arrested 34 individuals following the broadcast of an opulent wedding orchestrated by a drug baron known as “Moussa” in the city of Zghanghan, Nador province. The arrests followed an investigation triggered by viral videos of the event.
The lavish wedding, complete with celebratory gunfire and performances by famous artists, drew the attention of law enforcement after videos circulated online.The National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ) in Casablanca subsequently conducted raids on the homes of multiple suspects.
The initial operation resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals, followed by a second wave of 11 arrests. firearms featured in the wedding procession were also seized. All detainees were transferred to the headquarters of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) in Salé for further investigation.
Those arrested face serious charges,including forming a criminal organization,international drug trafficking,illegal possession and use of firearms,and suspected corruption of public officials.
Royal Gendarmerie Commander Dismissed Amidst Investigation
The fallout from the operation also led to the dismissal of the regional commander of the Royal Gendarmerie in Nador. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the drug network’s national and international connections,with the accused set to face trial.
