Albio Sires, US Congressman, said Thursday that his country's Congress is prepared to approve about $ 150 million in humanitarian aid for Venezuela once Nicol√°s Maduro leaves the country.

"We work for humanitarian aid as long as Maduro leaves the country, we're talking about about $ 150 million," Sires said during an interview The Voice of America.

The Congressman noted that Venezuelans are currently in a struggle to achieve democracy in the country.

"The Venezuelans wrestle between a democracy or a dictatorship and I believe that democracy has won so far, what they now have in Venezuela is a dictatorship and people have become silent to show that they no longer want Maduro," he said.

Sires also denied that the intention of the United States to effect a transition to democracy in Venezuela is related to Venezuelan oil.

"The United States now produces more oil than any other country in the world and does not need oil from Venezuela," he said.
