The US said that the time for negotiations with Maduro has passed

WASHINGTON, February 8 – RIA News. The United States believes that the time for talks with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has passed, the US Special Representative for Venezuela, Elliot Abrams, told reporters.

"The time for a dialogue with Maduro is long gone," Abrams said.

He also spoke negatively about the meeting of the contact group on Venezuela, held by Uruguay and Mexico.

According to him, Maduro will only postpone negotiations and manipulate them & # 39 ;. Abrams said that instead of communicating with Maduro, all countries should recognize Juan Guayido, who according to the United States is the interim president of the country.

"Do not fall into the trap that Maduro has set many times before when it comes to fake dialogues instead of sending Maduro a clear signal that he has to leave," said a spokesperson.

"We are not interested in participating in the contact group," concluded Abrams.

Speaker of the Venezuelan parliament Juan Guaido declared on January 23 to be interim head of state for the duration of the provisional government. The United States and a number of other countries recognized Guaido's recognition and demanded that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whose election they did not consider legal, did not allow violent actions against the opposition. Maduro declared himself a constitutional president, and he called the head of the opposition parliament "a puppet of the United States."

Russia, China and various other countries supported Nicolas Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
