The assassin of the Berlin Breitscheidplatz, Anis Amri, apparently wanted to carry out an explosive attack on the Berlin shopping center Gesundbrunnen-Center together with other Islamists. This appears from research files that the ARD magazine "Contrasten", rbb24 and could see the "Berliner Morgenpost".
According to him, two Muslim friends, supposedly friends with Amri, would have obtained explosives for an attack by 2016 at the latest. According to the Attorney General, the material was stored in the house of a Russian Islamist who was arrested in August 2018.
His accomplice, an Islamist in Marseille arrested in April 2017, is said to have prepared a photo of the Gesundbrunnen center in addition to the jihadist propaganda in preparation for the attack on the social network Instagram. The Attorney General evaluates this, according to the documents as an indication of a possible target attack.
Islamists were shocked at random
Anis Amri also had access to this account. He would also have been in the Gesundbrunnen center a day after the photo was posted on Instagram. This results in location data from his mobile phone.
The trio probably did not implement their plans because the Berlin police wanted to carry out a personal check as part of the surveillance of one of the three Islamists. This had alarmed the three Islamists and encouraged them to distance themselves from the attack plans. The police themselves did not know the plans at this time.
