Russian warships hold exercises in Bering Sea during enormous military exercises

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian warships held exercises in the Bering Sea, which separated Russia from Alaska, part of Moscow's biggest military maneuvers since the fall of the Soviet Union. Broadcast images from the Ministry of Defense were on Friday.

The drills Vostok-2018 (East-2018), which until 17 Sept. Walking, in Siberia and in waters off the eastern coast of Russia, with 300,000 troops, more than 1,000 military aircraft and two naval fleets.

The exercises take place at a time of heightened tension between the West and Russia, and NATO has said that it will follow the exercise closely, just like the United States with a strong military presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

President Vladimir Putin inspected the war games on Thursday and promised soldiers to strengthen the Russian army and offer new weapons and equipment.

Putin said that Russia was a peaceful country ready for cooperation with every state interested in partnership, but that it was the duty of a soldier to stand ready to defend his country and its allies.

On Friday, the Ministry of Defense sent out images of the destroyer of the Vice Admiral Kulakov of the Northern Fleet and the landing ship Alexander Obrakovsky, who participated in a mock-up rescue operation in the Bering Sea.

Other images showed scores of paratroopers jumping from a plane and descending helicopters with ropes in the eastern Siberian territory of Zabaikalsk.

The ministry also broadcasts fragments of missiles launched from its S-300 long-range ground-to-air missile system and its Buk medium-range missile system.
