A taxi driver was arrested on live television after confessing to the murder of his girlfriend in an interview.
Marinder Singh told the Indian channel News18 that he strangled and cut off the neck of his girlfriend Sarabjit Kaur, 27, on New Year’s Eve because he thought she was having an affair.
He said he had gone to the canal offices in Chandigarh to “give up.”
Singh said the victim’s family had rejected his marriage proposal after months of negotiation.
“The marriage conversations between my family and the Sarabjit family had taken place for six months, but his family always created problems, sometimes saying that I am not of his caste and sometimes rejecting me for not having a job in the government,” he said. .
Singh, who was convicted of killing another woman in 2010, was arrested later during his appearance on the channel on Tuesday.
Police were filmed entering the studio before escorting the 31-year-old from the building and putting him in a van.
Ms. Kaur, who was a nurse, was seen entering a hotel in Chandigarh with Singh on December 30.
Two days later, after Singh was gone, the staff went up to the room to find his body in the blood-stained bed.
Sky News has contacted the local police for more information on the case.
