Live Taal Volcano Eruption Update: Thousands flee the danger zone as fears of a larger lava explosion rise

Animals left behind

Around 1,000 horses, as well as cows, goats and pigs were among the animals left by residents who fled to safer areas for fear of a larger eruption.

The owner of a horse urged the authorities to allow the rescue of as many animals as possible, taking advantage of what appeared to be a break in the activity of the volcano, but was rejected by the coast guard patrolling the lake.

The horses were among the more than 70 animals safe from Wednesday by another group of rescuers, led by a maritime police unit, but since then they have been told to stop their activities, due to the threat of eruption.
