Reports on the legal removal team of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, have been received with surprise and disbelief.
According to US media reports, a high-profile member of the team will be Ken Starr, the special prosecutor at the Bill Clinton political trial in 1988.
Hearing the news, Monica Lewinsky, whose affair with Mr. Clinton was exposed by Mr. Starr, tweeted “this is definitely a day‘ are you kidding? “
Starr is a hero to many on the right, even if Clinton was finally acquitted in the Senate.
Next to him will be the most famous celebrity lawyer in the United States, Alan Dershowitz, who said Friday that he would be part of the legal team that defends the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in his trial by political trial in the Senate.
“Professor Dershowitz will present oral arguments at the Senate trial to address constitutional arguments against dismissal and removal,” a statement said in his personal Twitter account.
“He believes that the issues at stake go to the heart of our lasting Constitution.”
With previous clients such as convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, OJ Simpson, film director Roman Polanski and Mike Tyson, Dershowitz is probably the best-known star lawyer in the United States.
He will be part of a team with great firepower led by the discreet but uncompromising White House lawyer, Pat Cipollone.
Trump, a Republican, is accused of abusing his office by pressuring Ukraine to dig up a Democratic electoral rival, Joe Biden.
Cipollone is behind the White House strategy of refusing to cooperate with Democratic investigators during the political trial investigation.
The White House has not yet announced the entire team, but confirms that Cipollone will be the lead attorney, backed by Trump’s lawyer, Jay Sekulow.
