Nguyễn Cao Trí, a businessman, is alleged to have offered bribes totaling over seven billion dong (approximately US$275,000) to government inspectors as well as senior officials in Lam Dong province.
Former Government Spokesman Admits Wrongdoing
Mai Tiến Dũng, former Vietnamese government spokesman from 2016 to 2021, is accused of receiving 200 million dong in bribes. During his trial, Dũng admitted that his behavior was incorrect and acknowledged his responsibility.
“I hope the court will consider my position and show mercy,” Dũng stated in an interview with state-controlled news outlet VNExpress.
Anti-Corruption Plan Reveals Land Wastefulness
According to state media, the bribery scheme associated with the Dai Ninh real estate project led to a failure to reclaim 3,600 hectares of land. As a consequence, the land was wasted, and 24 instances of illegal deforestation occurred.
