Vietnam, Laos boost educational cooperation

A forum to improve the quality of training in Vietnam – Laos educational cooperation was organized on Thursday (September 29th) in Vientiane by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports.

Vietnamese Vice-Minister of Education and Training, Nguyên Van Phuc, said the forum aims to assess the results of bilateral cooperation in manpower training, and seek new more effective methods of cooperation in this field, and in education and training in general.

The forum took stock of the training of Laotian students in Vietnam for the period 2011-2021. Over this period of time, Vietnam has welcomed nearly 30,000 Laotian students following various training programs.

In addition to long-term training courses, the Vietnamese education sector has organized two to nine-month training courses for 1,196 Lao executives, teachers and students. In addition, Vietnam has also helped Laos train managers and experts in science and technology fields.

During the 43e meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Vietnam – Laos Bilateral Cooperation, the Ministers of Education of the two countries signed the project to improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation in the field of education and development of human resources over the period 2021-2030. The project proposed specific solutions aimed at raising the quality of training for Lao students between 2021 and 2030.

At the forum, 24 memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements between education management agencies, universities and institutes in Vietnam and Laos were signed.

On the same day in Vientiane, the two ministries also held a 2022 Vietnam Higher Education Expo.

The event featured 38 booths including 34 from Vietnam’s higher education institutions. He presented training programs, learning opportunities as well as scholarships for Lao students.
