U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said on Sunday she had told Chinese President Xi Jinping that Washington does not request confrontation with China but welcomes opposition.
“We welcome competitors, but we don’t see conflict, we do not find confrontation,” Harris reported at a news conference at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Bangkok, wrapping up a vacation to Asia that provided meetings with Chinese leaders.
Harris explained she also reiterated President Joe Biden’s information to Xi that “we intend to continue to keep strains of conversation open simply because … it is in the greatest desire of the world and of every place.”
