A Tagalog-language mass is scheduled for Sunday evening at the Sacred Heart Parish of Delta, with another service planned for Monday at Saint-François-de-Sales Church in Burnaby. These services aim to provide spiritual comfort and a sense of community during this tough time.
Archdiocese of Vancouver Appeals for Support
Archbishop J.Michael Miller of the Archdiocese of Vancouver addressed the community during a commemorative mass, emphasizing the archdiocese’s commitment to providing essential support to the victims and their families. The archdiocese has pledged to ensure the availability of local services in the coming months to aid in the long-term recovery process. A second collection will be conducted during weekend services across the 77 Catholic parishes within the Archdiocese to further support these efforts. Father Abundo confirmed that donations were collected during his mass,with the funds yet to be tallied.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Adam Kai-ji Lo,30,the suspect in the vehicle attack,is facing eight counts of second-degree murder. Police have indicated that additional charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses. Lo appeared before the Vancouver Provincial Court on Friday, where a judge ordered a mental health assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 30th. The outcome of this assessment will be crucial in determining the course of the legal proceedings.
