On Friday after noon, police first-line patrols arrested a student who threatened to shoot in the premises of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem. Two classmates drew attention to his threats. No one was hurt. CNN Prima News reported this on its website on Friday.

“Shortly after 12:00 p.m., two university students arrived at the regional police department in Ústí nad Labem and announced that their classmate expressed sympathy for the recent tragic event at the Faculty of Philosophy (in Prague) and that he intends to commit a similar act,” said police spokeswoman Veronika Hyšplerová. Therefore, first-line police patrols immediately went to the university campus and detained the student.

“The subsequent check revealed that (the student) does not hold a firearms license,” the police spokeswoman added. According to her, the police started interrogating the student and carrying out the necessary procedural steps. Prima stated that the student threatened to shoot in the premises of the Faculty of Philosophy in Ústí.

The so-called first-line patrols were created by the police after the tragic attack by a shooter in a restaurant in Uherské Brod in February 2015. They are prepared and equipped for quick action against armed attackers.

In December 2023, 14 students and teachers lost their lives in a shooting in the building of the Faculty of Philosophy of Prague’s Charles University. The perpetrator was a student who, according to the police, murdered a man and a two-month-old child in Klánovické les on the outskirts of Prague a few days earlier, and also his father in Hostoun in central Bohemia on the day of the shooting. He committed suicide after the act at the Faculty of Philosophy.
