The attack occurred on Sunday against a motorboat which, according to information from the US secret services, was sailing along the routes routinely used for drug trafficking. US authorities said none of their troops were injured during the operation.
The operation is part of an offensive launched in 2025 against vessels that Washington considers linked to criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean and Pacific. According to official data, this campaign resulted dozens of attacks against suspicious ships on those sea routes.
According to international media, the total number of people killed in these actions now exceeds 150 since the start of the campaign.
The strategy has drawn criticism from some experts and lawmakers, who question the legality of the attacks and point out that in many cases it was not publicly proven that the ships were carrying drugs at the time of the attacks.
