US launches airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iranian-backed militias

The United States armed forces on Sunday carried out airstrikes in areas of Iraq and Syria against Iranian-backed militias, in response to the rebels’ drone attacks on US troops and facilities on Iraqi soil, the Pentagon said.

According to an NGO quoted by the AFP agency, at least five militiamen lost their lives as a result of the operations.

“At least five Iranian-backed militiamen were killed and several others injured in the US airstrike,” He said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the UK.

The attacks had as target operational and weapons storage facilities at two locations in Syria and one location in Iraq, the Pentagon said.
