Arief Sjamsulaksana Kartasasmita, Chancellor of Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), has publicly addressed the recent decree issued by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin.the decree mandates a temporary suspension of activities related to the Specialist Doctor’s Education Program (PPDS) for Unpad students at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. Chancellor kartasasmita stated that the university respects the Ministry’s decision.

Of course we respect the decision of the Ministry of Health, because this is all for a better education. But maybe what is meant is not to stop education but stop the hospital as a place for educational services.

Scope of the Freeze: RSHS Bandung Specifically Targeted

Clarifying the scope of the directive, Chancellor Kartasasmita emphasized that the freeze does not encompass all educational processes within Unpad’s Faculty of Medicine. Rather, the Ministry of Health’s action is specifically targeted at the PPDS program conducted at RSHS Bandung. This distinction is crucial, as it allows Unpad to continue specialist training through alternative avenues.

Because actually if stopping education must be carried out by universities and faculties. So the Ministry of Health in this case will certainly stop education at Hasan Sadikin Hospital as a place for educational specialist doctors of FK Unpad anesthesia for a while.

Continuity of Anesthesia Training Through Partner Hospitals

Despite the temporary disruption at RSHS Bandung, Unpad assures that the training of anesthesia specialists will continue uninterrupted. Chancellor Kartasasmita highlighted the university’s existing network of partner hospitals, which will now play a more prominent role in providing clinical experience for PPDS students. This proactive approach aims to minimize any potential impact on the students’ educational progress. As of 2024, medical education in Indonesia is increasingly reliant on affiliations between universities and a diverse range of hospitals to ensure complete training, a trend that Unpad is actively leveraging.
