Uniting NSW.ACT’s AI Breakthrough Dominates Aged Care Tech Talk Webinar
During the Department of Health and Aged Care’s inaugural tech-talk of 2025, Uniting NSW.ACT stole the spotlight with its innovative use of artificial intelligence in aged care. The webinar, aimed at aged care sector professionals and IT experts, delved into various digital transformation initiatives and AI integration examples, making Uniting’s presentation a standout success.
AI in Aged Care: A Game Changer
Wednesday’s event saw Andrew Dome, Uniting NSW.ACT’s chief digital information officer, introduce a generative, persona-based AI program. For attendees, Dome’s talk about their digital assistant, Sarah, was a revelation. Sarah, akin to ChatGPT, utilizes user prompts to recognize patterns and generate data, facilitating more efficient and personalized care. This collaboration between Uniting, Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab, and AWaRE marked a significant milestone in tech integration within the aged care sector.
Developing and Ethically Implementing AI
Dome outlined the step-by-step process Uniting followed to introduce AI, from developing a proof of concept to establishing a feedback loop and consulting with executives and the board. He stressed the importance of ethical considerations, emphasizing that while AI can enhance decision-making in care packages, its capabilities are yet to establish a wholly ethical autonomy in such critical roles.
