National Education Minister Abdelhakim Belaabed responded to a journalist’s question about school uniforms by saying that any initiative approved by parents “will be welcome”.
Responding to a question on the adherence of his sector to the initiative to adopt the Algerian school of a unified school uniform, asked by an APS journalist, on the sidelines of a working visit to Beni Abbes , the Minister of Education said he was in favor of this approach initiated by certain schools, for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
Recall that a unified uniform has been adopted by primary schools in some wilayas (Blida, Oum el Bouaghi, Algiers), the costs of which have been entirely borne by the school or shared with the parents.
Speaking in this regard, the president of the National Federation of Parents’ Associations, Djamila Khiar, said she was in favor of any initiative “aimed at promoting the Algerian school”, arguing that “the said initiative tends in addition to ‘aesthetic aspect to eliminate social disparities’.
For his part, the president of the National Union of Parents of Students, Saadi Hamid, described this initiative as “not positive and encouraging”, adding that most parents “see no inconvenience in it as long as the criteria quality and price are respected”.
He further specified that this initiative “deserves to be encouraged and generalized through all Algerian schools”.
