The Royal Albert Hall in London, one of the most iconic concert halls in the world, will take as inspiration the Palau de la Música Catalana de Barcelona for the new underground concert hall that it plans to build next to the main building, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this Monday .

This was announced to Efe in an interview by the executive director of the Royal Albert Hall, Craig Hassall, who explained that on a visit to Barcelona he was fascinated by Lluís Domènech’s “beautiful modernist building”, and since then he has used it as a reference for the expansion of its enclosure.
The new concert hall of the Royal Albert Hall, according to Hassall, was born from the need to create “two spaces” in the London venue, and with the aim of being a “small venue for emerging artists” that complements the main auditorium.
Although it is still a wish, Hassall hopes that it will soon become a reality, along with the many changes that the Royal Albert Hall wants to make to commemorate its 150 years of life, among which are the creation of a two-story basement to increase the storage space, or the conversion of the site into a sustainable building.
The programming of events related to the anniversary will last until 2023, since the covid-19 pandemic has forced the postponement of most of the acts of a building that, until now, had only closed once in its history, with the bombing of the British capital during World War II.
