The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, met today in Paris with Denys Chmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
Together, they addressed the situation in Ukraine, whose energy infrastructure is the daily target of Russian strikes in the heart of winter, and the aid provided by France, both bilaterally and within the framework of the French presidency of the G7. The two ministers also discussed the ongoing negotiations, the importance of involving Europeans in discussions on parameters directly concerning European security, and the 20th European Union sanctions package in preparation.
The Minister reiterated France’s full support for Ukraine in its fight to defend its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, while February 24 will mark the 4th anniversary of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. He recalled that France will continue its efforts, alongside all its partners, in favor of a just and lasting peace, and reaffirmed our determination to support Ukraine over the long term.
