The United States Department of Defense, the Pentagon, has reportedly placed restrictions on Ukraine’s ability to use US-supplied missile systems to strike targets within Russia. According to US press reports, this decision is linked to the trump governance’s efforts to engage Russian President Vladimir putin in peace negotiations. Sources indicate that a confidential review mechanism governs the use of american weaponry.

The Pentagon has effectively prohibited Ukraine from employing US-provided long-range missile systems against targets located inside Russian territory. Specifically, the use of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for attacks on Russia has been restricted.

Under the oversight system developed by the Pentagon, US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth retains final authority over the deployment of these weapons.The Defense Ministry employs a clandestine approval process, which monitors the utilization of US-manufactured arms and European munitions, relying on US intelligence assessments.

Unnamed officials stated that the Ministry has been preventing Ukraine from using US-made long-range ATACMS missiles against Russian territory as the spring.

“I am absolutely against the sending of missiles hundreds of miles away to Russia. Why do we do this? We climb the war even more.”

According to two unnamed US officials, Kiev had requested permission to use ATACMS missiles on at least one occasion, but this request was denied. These officials stated that the decision was made in accordance with an evaluation process overseen by Pentagon Undersecretary Elbridge Colby, which assesses the use of ATACMS missiles and European systems connected to US intelligence or components developed by Ukraine.

British authorities have indicated that a similar procedure applies to the UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles. Reportedly, the UK also relies on US assistance in targeting data, leading to coordinated oversight by Washington and London over Ukraine’s missile usage.

According to the Wall street Journal (WSJ), Pentagon sources indicated that the US had previously approved the use of ATACMS missiles with a range of approximately 190 miles (305 kilometers) by Ukraine during the Biden administration. This approval was reportedly granted in November,following advances by North Korean troops.

Time magazine reported that then US President Trump stated in an interview in January that Ukraine should be allowed to use US weapons to hit targets in Russia.

Trump,criticizing the Biden administration’s decision,said,”I am absolutely against the sending of missiles hundreds of miles away to Russia. Why do we do this? We climb the war even more. Such a decision should not be made.”

Authorities have stated that it remains unclear whether the current review process signifies an official change in US defense policy. Though, it has been announced that controls over weapons sent to Ukraine have been tightened due to decreasing ammunition stocks in Washington.

US President Donald Trump argued that former President Joe Biden gave Ukraine to Ukraine, “It is indeed not impossible to win the war without attacking an invading country. This is like a team of a great defense in the sports world, but there is no chance to win.”

white House press spokesman Karoline Leavitt responded to the allegations and stressed that Trump said that “Ukraine should end the war in Ukraine”. The spokesman underlined that there is no change in the current military balance.

Last week, Trump gave similar messages in contacts with President of Ukraine Volumir Zelenski. Trump argued that Ukraine was not able to provide superiority against Russia unless he made progress in the war.

Trump, who shared his social media account on Thursday, said, “It is very difficult to win a war without attacking the territory of an invader. It is indeed impossible. This situation looks like a team that has a good defense but has no offense.

During the year 2025, Ukraine organized attacks on Russian territory with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Ukrainian drones,which target the inner parts of the Russian territory,hit many targets,especially Moscow.

Last month, the US administration agreed to provide new weapons systems to Ukraine. Though, this package was approved on the condition of financing of European countries.

Although Trump announced that Washington did not intend to send longer -range weapons that could hit Moscow, US officials announced that Washington approved the sale of 3,350 long -range attack ammunition (ERAMS) with a range of 400 kilometers. This ammunition was reported to be a missile system that can be thrown from the air.
