Two people died in fires on weekends, the representative of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Agrita Vītola informed the portal “Delfi”.

“Delfi” has previously reported that on Sunday, firefighters rushed to a call in Dundaga region, where the mezzanine floor of a partially inhabited two-storey masonry building burned. A man was taken out of the smoky apartment and died by medical personnel from the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
On Saturday, household items burned in a one-storey residential building. Firefighters took a man from the burning building, who was found dead by doctors.
The SFRS received a call to Mālpils, where a burnt food left on a flat wicker was burning unattended in an apartment building. A man who had been injured was taken from the smoked apartment and handed over to doctors.
No smoke detectors were installed in the homes where the fires occurred.
On Friday in Salaspils region, firefighters rescued a dead person from the river and handed them over to the State Police officers.
On weekends, the help of rescuers was also needed in Alūksne, Jelgava and Līvāni districts, where people had wandered in the forest.
In total, the SFRS received 138 calls in the past days – 37 for firefighting, two of which were forest fires, 68 for rescue work, but 33 calls were deceptions.
