Who stands to lose or gain in this exchange? Pentagon Pete Hegseth stands to lose. He was publicly mocked by SNL's Colin Jost on Weekend Update. According to The Daily Beast, Jost called Hegseth a 'huge weirdo'. The exchange occurred during a midterms-themed cold open.
The evidence for this is in the cold open itself. According to TheWrap, the cold open featured Trump, Rubio, and Hegseth begging Republican voters for help ahead of the 'bleak' midterms. TheWrap's coverage does not yet specify the exact content of the cold open. However, it is reported to be a midterms-themed sketch.
The caveat complicating this is that coverage from TheWrap, Yahoo, Rolling Stone, and USA Today also mentions that SNL's Weekend Update also roasts Trump's ballroom and Kristi Noem's divorce, suggesting that the show's focus was not solely on Hegseth.
