Isiah Pacheco will begin the 2026 NFL season on injured reserve. Yahoo Sports first reported the news, noting that the Lions' running back will miss the start of the season due to injury. Later reports from outlets such as The Detroit News and FantasyPros confirmed the injury as related to his back and MCL.

The Lions have expressed optimism about Pacheco's eventual return, along with other injured players Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. However, Yahoo Sports and Draft Sharks have noted fan reactions questioning the value of signing Pacheco, given his injury status. The Lions have also indicated that Jacob Saylors will start the season as Jahmyr Gibbs' backup, with the team appearing comfortable with this arrangement.
