Tour de France: Covid test day, stressful day, episode 2

Before the Alps, the Tour is at the exit of a slippery turn, capable of doing as much damage as a summer ice storm on the Côte d’Azur. The results of the second battery of Covid tests are expected this Tuesday morning. They will be revealed in a joint ASO and UCI press release before the start of the day.

If, in a team – riders and staff included – two cases are positive, it will be excluded. During the previous rest leg, in Charente-Maritime, four teams had a positive case in their management: Inéos, AG2R, Cofidis and Mitchelton. But the counters are reset: these formations are not under the threat of a single new case that could make them leave the door.

Pinot: “We did everything to protect ourselves”

This second battery of PCR tests was carried out in two stages: 315 tests – about half – were carried out on Sunday at the Gerland sports hall before leaving Lyon. The other half was carried out at the Jeannie-Longo sports hall in Sassenage on Monday morning.

All that remains is to wait for the verdict: “We did everything to protect ourselves,” says Thibaut Pinot. This week, the whole team did internal tests and we were all negative. Afterwards, we do not control everything and we will wait like everyone else. But I hope there won’t be any concern for anyone. Because it would be too hard to see all the work of a year disappear for something like that. “

Tested positive a week ago, Tour director Christian Prudhomme returned to his post on Monday evening. He arrived in Grenoble directly from his home in Boulogne-Billancourt with his driver, Gilles Maignan. The latter was also dismissed at the same time as a contact person.
