Totorro makes his film-concert of love – Exit Mag

Post rock has done film music a lot of good. Can he do the same for the photo novel? Fifteen years after its release we still remember the excellent soundtrack by Mogwai from Zidane, a portrait of the 21th century, without which the film would probably not have had the same flavor. The Scottish quartet had done it several times, with the soundtrack of the series Ghosts or that of the experimental documentary by Mark Cousins Atomic, given as a cine-concert event during Sound Nights 2016. In the same vein, their distant Breton cousins totorro do not attack the 7th but at 9th art with a “cine-BD-concert” inspired by Fabcaro’s true-false photo-novel What if love was Love? On paper, it looks good: around twenty original instrumental themes have been created by Totorro and the drummer friend. Pierre Marolleau to accompany the projection on the big screen of the comic strips, recomposed image by image for the occasion. In 4 by 3 and boosted to math rock supercharged trio, the spicy and disillusioned realism of Fabcaro will take on another dimension. Almost literally come to life, we should say because let us recall that in the original story of Fabcaro, Sandrine falls under the spell of Michel, a home delivery man who is a rock singer in his spare time… How much the Rennes people will play the card of the mise en abyme? Answer on November 28 at the Modern Epicerie. We will, of course. QA
