Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is departing Arsenal after both parties agreed to end his contract. The Japan international is currently recovering from knee surgery and onyl played six minutes last season.
Tomiyasu is expected to be sidelined for another five months as he continues rehabilitation following his february operation. The 26-year-old also missed the beginning of last season due to a previous knee injury that required surgery in 2023.
While his contract was set to expire at the end of next season, BBC Sport reports that Arsenal and Tomiyasu reached a settlement to terminate the agreement.
As joining Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, Tomiyasu made 79 appearances for the Gunners.
Arsenal has already begun searching for defensive reinforcements this summer, with Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera being considered. Kieran Tierney has already left Arsenal to join Celtic, and there’s a possibility Oleksandr Zinchenko will depart before the summer transfer deadline on Monday, 1 September.
