‘The Walking Dead’ to end after its eleventh season

The Walking Dead‘, the television phenomenon of the AMC network, will come to an end after the broadcast of its next season, the eleventh, although the network is already preparing another format split around the characters of Daryl and Carol.

According to a statement from the channel, the eleventh season, originally scheduled to be broadcast this year, has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and will finally see the light of day in late 2021.

This last installment will consist of 24 episodes and will finish airing in 2022.

It was previously announced that six episodes of the tenth season are still to be shot and that they will be available in early 2021.

The spinoff series announced by AMC will have Daryl and Carol as protagonists, the characters played by Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride from the first season of “The Walking Dead.”

The only details that are known at the moment are that it is a format created by Angela Kang, current head of ‘The Walking Dead’, and Scott Gimple, who held that position in previous years. The series is expected to premiere in 2023. “I am looking forward to working with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, actors and the rest of the team and adapting the epic final chapter of the story of Robert Kirkman (the creator of the comic the series is based on) for our fans, “said Kang.

“Working with Norman and Melissa has been one of the best things in my career and I am excited to continue telling stories with them,” she added.

In addition, Gimple is developing another series entitled “Tales of the Walking Dead”, where new characters and others already known will appear within the stories that begin and end in the same episode.

The universe created by AMC around “The Walking Dead” already includes the spin-off series “Fear the Walking Dead”, whose sixth season will start on October 11, and “The Walking Dead: World Beyond”, about the generation that survived the zombie apocalypse, which kicks off on October 4.

In addition, AMC and Universal Pictures are working together on a series of films around the figure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who appeared on “The Walking Dead” during the first nine seasons.

‘The Walking Dead’ reached more than 17 million viewers in the US at its peak.
