the victims helicoptered to the CHU

Motorists often tend to drive a little, sometimes a lot, too fast on the N63 between Marche-en-Famenne and Liège, in particular at the level of the Somme-Leuze viaduct. The scene was once again the scene of a serious accident this Friday evening. At around 6:20 p.m., a convertible Mercedes CL200 got stuck in an obstacle. At the wheel, a man in his fifties and in the passenger seat, his daughter in her twenties.

“According to a witness, the vehicle was traveling at more than 180 km / h”, we are told on the side of the Condroz-Famenne police zone. “The accident happened at the end of the viaduct on the descent. The car probably crashed under braking, causing loss of control. There were 128 meters between the point of impact and the vehicle stopping, which indicates a certain speed ”.

The seriously injured victims were taken by helicopter to the Liège University Hospital.

This place is well known by the local police officers who had just carried out a large control operation there this Friday between 8 am and 4 pm. The speed record: 193km / h! And unfortunately, only two hours later, a tragedy still took place. “This fully justifies the recurrence of checks at this location,” underlines the Condroz-Famenne area.
