BACOLOD Metropolis – Mayor Evelio Leonardia has purchased the closure of cemeteries, memorial and columbarium parks from 30 Oct to 2 November to avert the spread of COVID-19 in the metropolis.
“This will lead to crowding of people who will violate present countrywide and area public policy on the rigid ban on mass gatherings that can result in the unwarranted spread of COVID-19,” the mayor stated in an ordinance on Sunday, Oct 17. .
He claimed the closure of cemeteries is necessary for the promotion of health, the protection and safety of the local community and the preservation of life.
