The 2018/2019 hydrological year was too dry in most parts of the country, with the exception of eastern Switzerland. The retreat of the glaciers continued.
The hydrological year which runs from October 1 to September 30, was drier than that marked by the drought of summer 2018, notes SRF Meteo in its annual report published on Tuesday. The climate was generally too dry in the west and south. On the other hand, the hydrological year was too wet in the east of the Plateau and the Alps, as well as in the north and in the center of Grisons.
According to SRF Meteo, the trend of more and more marked fluctuations from year to year seems to be confirmed.
Despite the snowy winter, the glaciers suffered again. They continued to lose volume, both in length and in volume.
The hydrologic year is mainly due to the fact that snow that falls in late fall can usually only clear the following year.
