The Foreign Ministry reacted to the comment of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova
Russian certification is a proven means of spreading the chauvinist ideology of the “Russian world,” Oleg Nikolenko noted.
To stop issuing passports of the Russian Federation in the territory of Donbass not controlled by Ukraine, coordinated steps of the world community, including those of a sanction nature, are needed. This was stated by the speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko in a commentary for Interfax-Ukraine on Sunday, June 27.
“Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has repeatedly stressed that the international community should react more rigidly to the distribution of Russian passports in Donbas. Even after its reintegration, Russia will try to play the“ card of Russian citizenship. ”In fact, this is a Russian time bomb. Coordinated steps are needed in particular sanctions in order to neutralize it, “Nikolenko said.
Thus, he reacted to the comment of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in connection with the statements of the President of Ukraine on granting Russian citizenship to the residents of Donbass, who indicated that “the logic and claims of Volodymyr Zelensky are difficult to understand.”
“One can only sympathize with the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation, which is” difficult to understand “the consequences of the destructive Russian policy. Russian certification is a proven means of spreading the chauvinistic ideology of the” Russian world “, an element of Russian hybrid tactics against neighboring states. Under the guise of” protecting Russian compatriots, “Russian troops occupied units territories of Georgia and Ukraine, Russian special services are constantly interfering in the internal affairs of the Baltic states, “- said the speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Nikolenko recalled that in April 2019, Ukraine and the international community, in particular members of the UN Security Council, condemned the decision of the Russian Federation to introduce a simplified procedure for granting Russian citizenship to Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“According to our data, over half a million local residents received Russian passports in two years,” Nikolenko added.
He said that with this step, Russia deliberately destroys the Minsk agreements, the logic of which is to restore the sovereignty of Ukraine and the peaceful reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories.
“On the other hand, the Russian side continues to consolidate the results of its occupation, pulls the Ukrainian territories controlled by it into its political, economic, electoral, social and cultural space,” the speaker said.
According to Nikolenko, in such conditions, noisy calls from Russian officials about Ukraine’s alleged unwillingness to make progress in the Minsk process look especially cynical and one that has nothing to do with reality.
“The Russian Federation should finally begin to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements and the Normandy format on the basis of full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, compliance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation and international law,” Nikolenko said.
We will remind, Zelensky said that the Minsk agreements are “barely alive.” At the same time, Russia violates them by issuing passports to residents of Donbass.
As you know, in April 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a simplified procedure for obtaining a Russian passport for residents of ORDLO, as well as citizens of Ukraine who lived in Crimea in March 2014. Later, Putin explained that this decision was purely humanitarian in nature, because the current situation could no longer be tolerated.
