Data evaluation: what the pill has to do with corona
London researchers at King’s College have found a link between low levels of estrogen and severe corona infection. Conversely, this also means “that the women who take the pill are less likely to have a severe course of Covid-19,” explains medical journalist Dr. Christoph Specht.
Young women show a weaker course of Covid-19
The researchers’ findings allow a new guess: “According to this study, it looks like the women who take the pill are less likely to have a severe course of Covid-19,” explains the physician Dr. Christoph Specht. This is due to the connection between a high level of estrogen and the evaluation of the data of the study participants.
“Estrogens are ‘suspected’ to be good for the immune system. Women generally have a favorable course for infections,” explains Dr. Woodpecker. So this is another clue for research to establish the connection
Menopausal women have lower levels of estrogen
So the researchers hypothesized that estrogens could protect against corona. But that must first be checked in further examinations and studies. The previous data from corona sufferers shows, however, that women are less likely to get the virus than men. The newly gained knowledge could therefore be another point of reference for research.
Risks of the birth control pill
The pill should therefore neither be taken lightly nor as a non-approved corona drug.
