Four days of diverse music, 12 stages, some unpublished, and more than a hundred performances make up the musical pillar of La Mercè, which this year has Rome as its guest city and will pay tribute to two artists who have already disappeared: Tete Montoliu, who died 25 years ago and was honored by a band of musicians who played with him as well as with guest artists (Grec, the 25th, at 8:30 p.m.), and Pau Riba, whose tribute awaits all his children, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Joan Garriga, among others (Avenida Catedral, 23, at 10:00 p.m.). The sensitivity of BAM, open to new proposals and with a social vocation, is manifested with its opening show, a kind of cabaret aimed at people with functional diversity entitled Diversorium (Rambla del Raval, day 23, at 9:00 p.m.). The third leg of the music of La Mercè is made up of Acció Cultura Viva, whose poster has been created through a participatory process from more than 500 proposals. Its epicenter will be Fabra i Coats and Nau Bostik.
The musical twinning with Rome, extended to Italy, will feature, among others, Vinicio Capossela, a relevant Italian folk and song artist who will offer his greatest hits (Grec, the 24th, at 10:15 p.m.) and Paolo Angeli, an artist who takes folk to the frontiers of the avant-garde (Jardins Doctor Pl i Armengol, the 25th, at 8:00 p.m.). Mina will be present when her repertoire is recovered by the Vozes Symphony Orchestra (Plaça Major de Nou Barris, on the 26th, at 7:30 p.m.). The programming, which this year the cultural manager Gisela Sais begins to develop, is complemented with popular names for the younger audience, most of which will perform on the Bogatell beach, in the case of Alizzz (23rd, at 11:30 p.m.) o Delafé and the Blue Flowers (24th, at 01.30). Other significant names are those of the flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela (Catedral, the 25th, at 10:00 pm), the Congolese Ray Lema, who will offer a tribute to Franco, father of the Congolese rumba (Grec, the 25th at 12:00 am); Juan Perro (24th, at 00:00); the tomb of Peret Reyes (on the 24th, at 10:00 p.m.); Xarim Aresté, a rocker without an overdose of testosterone (Jardins Doctor Pla i Armengol, the 25th, at 11:30 p.m.); Lucía Fumero and Rita Payés, who will offer a Latin American repertoire (Grec, the 23rd, at 8:30 pm); the singer-songwriter Nico Roig (Jardins Doctor Pla i Armengol, on the 24th at 8:00 p.m.); Andrea Motis (Moll de la Fusta, the 26th, at 4:30 p.m.), the festive fusion of Maruja Limón (Moll Fusta, the 26th at 6:30 p.m.) and the soul of Koko Jean & The Tonics on another new stage, the Ronda de Sant Antoni (25th, at 10:00 p.m.).
For its part, the BAM, which for the second year will be programmed by the Cooperativa Afluent, shows a broad perspective, without restriction of styles and with a social accent. Among the many concerts that it offers, the one on the 23rd of the Moroccan Asmâa Hamzaoui, broadcaster of music done (Rambla Raval, at 00.30); the hip hop of the Barcelona activist of Tangier origin Miss Raissa (Moll Fusta Besós, at 8:45 pm); Álvaro Sola’s neo-flamenco (Moll Fusta Besós, at 11 pm); the hybrid pop of the Colombian Lao Ra (Moll Futa Besós, the 23rd, at 01:00) and the urban approach of the non-binary artist Luna Ki (Moll Fusta Llobregat, the 23rd, at 02:00). The 24th will be the time for Moroccan rapper Issam (Rambla del Raval, at 11:00 p.m.), Soledad Vélez and her electronic pop (Moll Fusta Besós, at 01:00 a.m.). Finally, on the 26th it will close at the Fàbrica Damm with the folk of Anna Ferrer (at 5:15 p.m.) and the mix between flamenco and electronica, as well as visuals, by Los Voluble (at 7:15 p.m.).
Acció Cultura Viva presents a whole series of emerging names that express concern for new sounds, be they urban, electronic or of any other nature, and with a significant participation of women on the bill. On the 23rd, the Argentine La Maga (Nau Bostik, at 9:00 p.m.) and the Uruguayan Eli Almic (Nau Bostik, on the 23rd, at 10:00 p.m.), both attached to hip-hop, stand out, while the group from Lleida Koers (Nau Bostik , at 11:00 p.m.) tends towards music roots, reggae and derivatives. The 24th will see the performances of nara is neus (Fabra i Coats, at 9:00 p.m.), who moves in the most contemplative and ambient electronic music and Senyor Oca (Fabra i Coats, at 9:30 p.m.) bets on the most vindictive rap that does not lose contact with its social reality and proposes a sound record that includes the drum&bass or reggae. The Opinologists opt for feminist and irreverent humor wrapped in a mixture of musical styles (Fabra i Coats, the 25th at 1:30 p.m.). To these concerts will be added an independent record fair in which at least 23 record labels will be present. All of this, Mercè, BAM and Acció Cultural Viva, will take place whenever the rain, a regular guest at the festival, decides that it should take place calmly.
On Friday night, in a collaboration between Barcelona, Rome and the Italian Institute of Culture, Plaça de la Mercè will host a tribute to the soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone. At 10 pm, images from the films will be projected with the music of the genius performed live by Le Muse, an Italian chamber orchestra made up of 20 women. The solo voice will be in charge of the soprano Susanna Rigacci, official voice of Morricone in the world, reports Clara Blanchar.
