La Rochelle rugby players are set to face a challenging stretch of fixtures this winter, particularly after the suspension of Teddy Thomas for their upcoming Champions Cup clash with Leinster.
Teddy Thomas Banned for Four Games
The 31-year-old France international center, Teddy Thomas, will miss critical games due to his recent conduct. The incident occurred during a Top 14 match against Clermont, where Thomas was initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on Theo Giral. However, referee officials determined that the tackle was dangerous and warranted a more severe penalty.

Thomas was cited for “dangerous play and more particularly for charging or bringing down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grab that player.” Following a review of aggravating (his disciplinary record) and mitigating factors (recognition of facts, remorse), his six-week suspension was adjusted to four games.
“As of January 2, and taking into account the schedule of Stade Rochelais matches, Thomas will be free to play from January 27,” explained an official statement.

The suspension means Thomas will miss crucial games against Toulouse, Leinster, Benetton, and Toulon. This leaves La Rochelle with significant challenges ahead, especially in the playoffs.
