You can finally change your PSN ID on PS4

A long awaited function is finally is about to be rolled out for all PlayStation 4 users: the ability to change your PlayStation Network ID. This feature will not be available for PS3 and PS Vita users.

The change can be made on the console itself by selecting Settings – Account management – Account information – Profile – ID online. You can also make the change via the official Sony website.

Get creative, but be careful

Before you immediately go ahead and change the name that you probably made six years ago and are embarrassed enough to have it today, make sure your new name is something you really really like it. This is because while the first change to the ID is free, any subsequent changes will take you to $ 9.99 USD / CAD. PS Plus members receive a slight discount for $ 4.99 USD / CAD, but the point is that you will only have a free opportunity to create a new ID. Going back to an old ID, however, it will be free if you wish to do so.

Another warning with the new ID change is that not all PS4 games will support it. Sony said that only published games starting from 1 April 2018, it will support this function. So, unfortunately, four years of games are missing (2013-2017). Not all eligible games have been tested, but a list of tested games has been made available.

If you need more information, the official announcement on the PlayStation blog contains a list of frequently asked questions that should be of help.
