In a leaked reminder, provided to Wario64 on Twitter, from the GameStop game retailer, the company is informed by Sony that they will no longer receive PlayStation Store codes for full digital games after April 1st. This new policy applies to all retailers worldwide, including Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Amazon.
The memo states "Sony recently announced that digital download codes for full games will no longer be available for purchase from other retailers worldwide starting April 1, 2019. After this date (with some specific exceptions), the Full Sony downloads will be available for purchase only via the PlayStation Marketplace. "
The memo goes on to say that any customer who has preordered a PlayStation Store code should be encouraged to upgrade to a physical edition of the game. The memo notes two exceptions after the date, the Sony exclusive Days gone is Mortal Kombat 11, but will only be available for digital purchase for a week after the respective release dates.
PlayStation Store gift cards will still be available for purchase in their standard increments and guests will be told to buy those instead of complete digital codes.
This news follows the announcement of State of Play, a new series of Sony videos offering fans new game announcements, trailers and gameplay. The first episode is scheduled for launch March 25th.
