Bajaj and Triumph announced a joint venture without capital in August 2017 and both companies were expected to sign the formal agreement before December 2019. This time, the companies have joined together to make a formal announcement about developments at a conference will be held on January 24.
Not long ago, Triumph officials confirmed that the prototype is in the testing phase. The development of the engine will serve motorcycles with a capacity of 250cc-750cc, and different genres were also confirmed.
Bajaj will have to bring its own platform to the table to house the new engine developed. “The vehicle platform is not part of the agreement. The agreement is based on intellectual property (intellectual property). Bajaj Auto retains the intellectual property they have and we retain the intellectual property we have. There is an element of royalty in the relationship. If they develop any product using their IP, they are completely free to do so, but if they had to use Triumph IP, then we would have to have a conversation, “said Steve Sargent, Product Director of Triumph Motorcycles, in a report that came online.
The Indian manufacturer is unlikely to use any platform of the existing Bajaj, KTM or even Husqvarna line. Bajaj will have to generate a new platform for what could be a multi-cylinder motorcycle.
The motorcycle will be produced locally and exported to the United States, Europe and China. Bajaj also has plans to introduce it in the emerging markets of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and South America. While in India, Triumph will sell the new motorcycle at its dealership and the Bajaj version is expected to follow soon by 2022.
