Although this is probably not the flagship feature of Netflix, AirPlay support is no longer provided by the US streaming giant. As noted by the sites Apple Insiders and MacRumors, the Netflix help page announces "due to technical limitations, AirPlay is no longer supported. "
The end of an era
If the technical limitations are unclear, Netflix has nevertheless split an official statement to explain its decision.
"We want to ensure that our members enjoy a Netflix experience on all devices they use. By deploying AirPlay on third-party devices, it is no longer possible to distinguish between devices (an Apple TV and what not) or to certify those experiences. As a result, we have decided to discontinue Netflix AirPlay support to ensure that signage quality standards are met. Members can continue to access Netflix via the integrated app via Apple TV and other devices."
You would be inclined to make a connection between this sudden decision and Apple's announcement last week about the launch of its own streaming service. But the availability of the Netflix application on Apple devices tends to prove that the two American giants are not (yet) at odds.
