CEO / President Amnon Shashua explains why entering robotaxi services is a strategic movement
Mobileye has built a multi-billion dollar business that provides car manufacturers with computer vision technology that drives advanced driver assistance systems. It is a business that last year generated almost $ 1 billion in sales for the company. Today, 54 million vehicles on the road use Mobileye’s computer vision technology.
In 2018, the company did what many considered a bold and risky move when it expanded its focus beyond being a mere supplier to become a robotaxi operator. The result: Mobileye wants to compete directly with the likes of Waymo and other great players with the objective of deploying robotaxi commercial services.
TechCrunch sat with Amnon Shashua, President and CEO of Mobileye and Intel Senior vice president, to find out why and how, yes, the acquisitions are in the future, the company will achieve its goal.
