The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated a long time ago by the playoffs, but their season came to a dramatic conclusion Tuesday night. In front of their last game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Lakers president Magic Johnson called an unscheduled press conference where he announced shockingfrom the role.
Although this season there have been many dramas involving the Lakers, including some in-depth reports on Tuesday that indicated how off-track they were. For example, Johnson and coach Luke Walton. Still, Johnson resigned from nowhere. To the point that during the press conference he said he had not yet informed his owner Jeanie Buss or general manager Rob Pelinka.
Understandably, social media has gone crazy with the news. It was really the perfect story that Twitter reacted to: surprising, funny and on a topic that people know a lot about. Even veteran NBA journalists, like Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe, have taken flight.
The players also took their lines.
Elsewhere, the reactions ranged from disbelief to amusement in the incredible situation that was happening in Los Angeles.
And these are just some of the initial reactions. If Johnson's 45-minute press conference is indicative, things will get more ridiculous in LakerLand this summer.
