ViacomCBS has announced a new ambitious and unique animated series of executive producers Stephen Colbert, formerly of Colbert Reportand Chris Licht of The Late Show. Although it is lively, the new program will cover news topics the same day they happen, something that was made possible by the magic of computer animation technology. As expected, CBS All Access will be home to this new series.
Tooning Out the News It will include weekly full episode shows and daily news segments, all available for broadcast on CBS All Access. The program will include real-world guests (presumably in an animated way, but that’s not clear), as well as animated cast members. The program will offer daily news, but with a great garnish of mockery, which makes this, above all, a series of comedy.
The teaser video shared by CBS includes the kind of news topics the program will focus on, including things like President Trump, climate change, the southern border crisis and more. The series is organized by James Smartwood and will include ironic segments such as “Sign of Virtue”, “Inside the Hill” and “Hot Shot”.
The trailer also gives clues about the kind of humor we will see, for example, there is a real-world clip of Bernie Sanders pointing around a room, although in this version, bursting colorful animated bubbles that rise in front of him.
Unfortunately, ViacomCBS does not reveal when the series will debut in its streaming application. The CBS All Access platform is home to a growing number of original programs, including successes such as Star Trek: Discovery, lower deck, Y Picard. CBS All Access is available with two different plan options: $ 5.99 / month for limited commercials and $ 9.99 / month for free commercials.
