The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America and Colombia – Fulbright Colombia, is the main academic exchange program of the Government of the United States of America with a presence in 160 countries with more than 400,000 beneficiaries worldwide. It currently has open Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Scholarship (ETA for its acronym in English) with which it makes it possible for higher education institutions in Colombia to strengthen English as a second language and the new Fulbright Scholarship for Research in the Amazonwhich allows the creation of a network to stimulate international scientific collaboration on pan-Amazon issues, while increasing mutual understanding between researchers from the United States and other countries in the region.
Beca Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA)
With the opening of the call for Beca Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) and thanks to the support of Ministry of National Education of Colombia e ICETEXthe Fulbright Colombia Commission offers Colombian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) the opportunity to receive one or more American Fulbright scholars. The Americans will support the teaching of English according to the needs of HEIs for a period of ten (10) months (one academic year), for the period 2023-2024.
This program allows both higher education institutions and attendees to benefit from a permanent cultural exchange that enriches their experience during the development of the program and opens new windows and opportunities for the parties.
The scholarship covers the selection expenses of the ETAs (English Teaching Assistants) in the United States, the costs and procedures of the Visa in Colombia, Basic Program of Limited Coverage for accidents and illnesses (ASPE), additional comprehensive health insurance , Seminars in Colombia, comprehensive monitoring and support during the scholarship period.
In order for Colombian HEIs to apply for this scholarship, they must fill out the Registration Form, Action Plan Form and attach an Institutional Commitment Letter or Academic Cooperation Agreement, among other documents.
Since 2008, thanks to this Fulbright Scholarship, 598 English assistants have been able to support the teaching of this second language in all regions of the country, in municipalities such as Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Tunja, Cartagena, Ibagué, Girardot, Montería, Villavicencio, Santa Marta. , Neiva, among others; with the aim of strengthening international mobility programs between Colombia and the United States, as well as academic networks between both nations.
Thanks to the Fulbright ETA Program, around 82 educational institutions in Colombia have been benefited, among which the National University, the Cooperative University of Colombia, the University Foundation of the Andean Area, the University of Boyacá, the EAN University and the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia stand out. Fulbright Scholarship for Research in the Amazon
Taking into account the global climate situation, the Fulbright Program, the Office of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State.Next to the Fulbright Brazil Commission and the Institute of International Education have come together to create a new Fulbright Scholarship aimed at researchers from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
This initiative seeks to convene diverse people with an outstanding professional career, a high vocation for leadership and social commitment, professionals from all regions of Colombia and who are agents of change committed to the transformation of their communities and territory. Candidates belonging to diverse population groups are of particular interest; first-generation professionals, that is, the first to go to university in their family nucleus; and those with projects that benefit communities in the Colombian Amazon.
Using a collaborative model to put theory into practice, participants in the Fulbright Amazon Program will spend 18 months dedicated to addressing public policy research questions relevant to challenges shared by Amazonian nations.
Program participants will focus their research on one of the following Fulbright Amazon topics:
● Adaptation and mitigation of climate change
● Strengthen human and environmental health and safety
● Bioeconomy and sustainable development
It is anticipated that 16 scholarship recipients from the United States and the countries of the Western Hemisphere that share the Amazon basin will be selected to participate in the Fulbright Amazonia program, through an open call based on merit. At least four of the fellows will be selected from the United States, four from Brazil, and the remainder will be selected from other participating Amazonian nations.
The program grants a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, international tickets to attend Program meetings and research materials for the fellow, lodging and meals during group meetings, limited coverage program for accidents and illnesses, accompaniment and comprehensive advice.
