Sweden’s National Hockey Squad: Competence Meets Envy at the 4 Nations Face-Off

Montreal — Team Sweden heads into the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal and Boston with confidence. Their resolute play and potent scoring threat position them as a formidable team. However, the Swedes also recognize the excellence within their own ranks, often admiring one another’s unique talents.

Coach Sam Hallam expressed his optimism: “The guys are really enthusiastic about being on the same team. We’re fortunate to have them. They just have to be the best they can be.” Despite his confidence, Hallam acknowledges the challenges ahead.

What Skills Would Your Teammates Steal from Sweden’s Roster?

The Athletic recently posed an intriguing question to Sweden’s players: If they could “steal” a skill from their national teammates, which would they choose? Their responses offer a glimpse into the admiration players have for one another.

Jesper Bratt’s Small-Area Movement

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell, who competes regularly with Jesper Bratt in the NHL, highlighted Bratt’s agility and speed. “He’s got great speed and so agile. Playing against him, it’s really hard to contain him. If I had that … whoo.”

Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe agrees. “Not just forward, but how quick he is in the corners. If I had that, it would be pretty cool.”

William Nylander’s Skating

Boston Bruins center Elias Lindholm praised Nylander’s skating ability. “Just watching him in practice, what he does with his edges and stickhandling. It’s the kind of skating ability that could really elevate my game.”

Edmonton Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson seconded Lindholm’s sentiment. “His skating and puck play are impressive.”

Nylander’s Hands

Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond commented on Nylander’s stickhandling skills. “His ability to move and keep the puck on his tape every time, find space for himself—it’s impressive to watch.”

Erik Karlsson’s Poise

The Florida Panthers’ Gustav Forsling, also a defenseman, respects Karlsson’s composure. “The way he handles the puck and how calm he is—I would love to have that.”

Rasmus Dahlin’s Offensive Instincts

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm, admiring teammates’ offensive prowess, said, “Rasmus Dahlin is one of the best offensive defensemen we have. His breakout ability is exceptional.”

Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin agreed. “His offensive ability, especially walking the blue line, is something I wish I had.”

Elias Pettersson’s All-Around Offensive Danger

Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe described Elias Pettersson as “elite” in every aspect of his game. “Speed. Skill. He can shoot. He can pass. Everything. Petey’s going to be a good complement for both of us.”

The Spirit of Teamwork

While these players recognize their teammates’ exceptional skills, they remain united in their goal of representing Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Their mutual respect and admiration will undoubtedly play a role in how well they perform on the ice.

As Team Sweden faces Team Canada and other nations in Montreal and Boston, the tournament promises to be both competitive and inspiring. Fans can look forward to witnessing not only top-level hockey but also the camaraderie that builds within such a talented squad.
