Tottenham Hotspur is playing in the Champions League tonight, but they are fighting to make sure they're back in the league next season.
Back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Chelsea in the past week and Saturday's draw with Arsenal has shown them 10 points behind Premier League leaders Man City with nine more games left.
As a result, the Premier League trophy will not be canceled by Hugo Lloris and the Spurs team may block an all-powerful miracle in May.
But there is another consequence from the side of Mauricio Pochettino who is slipping from the title race – they are now faced with a fight to hold on to their place in the top four.
While they were firmly on the hunt for the title, the Lilywhites are now only three points ahead of the fourth seeded Manchester United, and four away from the fifth place Arsenal.
Spurs is still traveling to Liverpool and Manchester City to come this season, which means a few crucial tires in the race to secure Champions League football next season.
The side of Pochettino has had a good campaign so far, but they will have to keep their foot on the gas to ensure that the season does not weaken.
Chelsea is also right in the mix after consecutive league games against Spurs and Fulham, and the victory in their match at Brighton & Hove Albion would see them move to two points of the Lilywhites.
Although Arsenal was out of the top four in the weekend after the 1-1 tie with Spurs at Wembley, their run is unquestionably easier than the rest with only Manchester United out of the big six to play.
Chelsea must be both in Anfield and Old Trafford in their run-in, while United still has City rivals to play.
There will certainly be a few twists and turns, but what is certain is that no one connected to Tottenham has anticipated this battle for the top four a few weeks ago.
