Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake would be the "perfect substitute" for Toby Alderweireld if the Belgians leave Tottenham this summer, according to Darren Anderton.
The Spurs defender can leave the club in north London for £ 25 million this summer, after an extension year has been activated at the start of this year.
Having largely planned to leave the club last summer, the Belgian was an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino's team, achieving another four goal and reaching the Champions League final and was also one of the few Spurs players not to pick up an injury in this season.
However, with Pochettino eager to give his team some re-booting this summer, Alderweireld, 30, could very well move on. The former Chelsea defender Ake joined the Cherries from west London in 2017 and excelled under Eddie Howe, resulting in interest from the top six clubs once again.
"Nathan Ake would be the perfect substitute for Alderweireld at Tottenham," Anderton told Sportingbet. "With the Alderweireld contract in the summer [sic], all the signs indicate that he will leave the club and that it would be terrible for the Spurs.
"Vertonghen is also coming into the last year of his contract and is at the age when a club of Barcelona stature would be very interested in him, it is very worrying when you talk about these players as this would leave a big hole in defense it would need to be replaced quickly.
"Ake is a class player, he is a great defender who feels comfortable on the ball and Eddie Howe taking him to Bournemouth was one of his greatest successes at the club.
"Bournemouth owes much to their survival in the Premier League for Ake. It wouldn't surprise me to see Tottenham looking for him. I know Nathan Ake is very happy with Bournemouth, but Tottenham is a very tempting option."
