Tottenham Hotspur is eliminating all the stages to bring the Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele north of London, but where does he fit into the team?
The 22-year-old is one of Europe's most exciting young midfielders, with a range of all-round skills, and has an international and Champions League experience despite his age.
This week he told Spurs: "Tottenham is a great team, a great club, finished fourth in the championship, are finalists in the Champions League, is a great club like everyone else, which player would not be interested in a big club? "
It is believed that Ndombele is excited about a move in Tottenham because on top of the reasons mentioned above, it is more likely to be a good start there than other interested teams like Manchester City, Juventus and Barcelona.
With this in mind that the French will start, here are five ways in which Spurs could side with him from Mauricio Pochettino, if he signs on the dotted line.
The Spurs could have a very dynamic midfield trio with Ndombele slipping in alongside Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.
All three players are able to advance with the ball and Winks and Ndombele can both choose a pass.
The only downside to this triple blockbust threat is that it only leaves room for two players to support Harry Kane.
The power plant and the director
Another scenario is that Ndombele and Winks unite in the middle. The French is certainly not a weak point when it comes to passing skills, but Winks would be the man in the deepest director, the role of quarterback.
This would allow Ndombele to get up and down the field and use his passing and dribbling skills in more advanced areas, but also put more emphasis on his ability to come back and defend. It would also allow Pochettino to choose three offensive midfielders to further support him on the field.
The double French pin
It may not be Sissoko to miss. What does it mean that Winks is not the man who has to fight to get back into the team and it is the two French internationals who are mating in the middle.
Playing both Ndombele and Sissoko would surely provide legs in the middle. The first would take on the role of Winks to get more on the ball and spread the game, with the style of Sissoko that lends itself more to the role of running and breaking that it currently holds.
He would have freed Ndombele from some of his defensive positions, simply because of the coverage of Sissoko's camp.
The still in a diamond
Ndombele spent almost half of his games with Lyon last season in a defensive midfielder role.
He could play the same role for Tottenham at the base of the diamond that Pochettino sometimes likes to use.
Before him could be Winks and Sissoko, or Eriksen and Alli in both roles, with Alli, Lamela or Son, or a new signature, on the tip of the diamond behind Harry Kane and Lucas Moura or Son.
A new midfield partnership
if it's one thing that Pochettino loves to do is change its partnership in the midfield engine room. It is rarely, if ever the same duo, that plays most games from one season to another.
Sometimes it changes both players in the partnership, as was the case this year with Winks and Sissoko pairings.
It would not be a complete shock if Pochettino decided to do the same also next season, perhaps alongside Ndombele with another newcomer like Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentine can play both in a deeper role and in a more aggressive one. If Christian Eriksen remains, the Betis man, if he joins, could be a player who trades with the Danish from midfield.
First of all, of course, before one of the precedents occurs, Tottenham must obtain a signature through the door, the first in 18 months, so Pochettino can begin to understand how to use it.
