Spurs' Southampton defeat: one more game for Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United

Tottenham Hotspur could be qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but their form of Premier League is in tatters.

Just two weeks ago the Spurs were in the mix for the Premier League title.

Now they are holding on to a place in the top four.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have collected only one point in their last four games, with the defeat at Southampton on Saturday, leaving them nervously to watch over their shoulders.

Considering that they were firmly in search of the title, the Lilywhites are now only three points away from Manchester United in fourth place, and four in the clear from Arsenal fifth, having played an extra game, with those two who had to meet on Sunday.

The spurs still have trips to Liverpool and Manchester City to come this season, which means some fundamental ties in the race to secure the Champions League next season.

The team of Pochettino has enjoyed a good campaign to date, but will have to keep the foot on the gas to make sure that the season does not run out.

Chelsea are also right in the mix after their successive league wins against Spurs and Fulham, and their victory in their Wolves (Sunday) and Brighton & Hove Albion games would have seen them pass over the Lilywhites.

Although Arsenal came out of the top four after a 1-1 draw with Spurs at Wembley, their run-in is probably easier than the others with Manchester United among the big six to play.

Chelsea have to go to Anfield and Old Trafford in their meeting, while United still have a rival close to City.

There are certainly a number of turns and turns, but what is certain is that nobody in touch with Tottenham has predicted this battle for the first four weeks ago.
